New report looks at algae fuel’s market potential

The algae biodiesel fuel market seems bound for the big time in 2009 and a new report by Energy Business Reports, called “Biofuel from Algae Market Potential” explores the investment potential of the technology.
“Algae are the fastest-growing plants in the world. Algae-based technologies could provide a key tool for reducing greenhouse gas emissions from coal-fired power plants and other carbon intensive industrial processes”, says the report.
A new method employing a complex photosynthetic process means that biodiesel and ethanol from algae can double its volume overnight. Up to 50 percent of an algae’s body weight is comprised of oil. Compare that to rainforest-unfriendly palm oil trees, which yield just about 20 percent of their weight in oil.
