Just in case

Officials or the media may or may not be overreacting. New diseases crop up all the time, and most are not serious. … This might become very serious, or not, but the risk of death to any of us is statistically low – except in the long run.

How to Save Time Preparing for Work

Posted on April 28, 2009, under Polttoaineet, Sekalaista, Uutiset.

I found this in youtube a few days ago, how to get up from bed and be ready for work in only 5 minutes. Of course this is possible to do if you have no plans of taking a bath in the morning.

We’re not really endorsing all of this, especially the parts where they use a microwave because that consumes just too much electricity. Just to prove how expensive having a microwave is, we gained about a P500 ~ P1000 in our electricity bill, when housemates started using a microwave to heat their food in an apartment we were staying in.

Still, it’s good to highlight that being early during the day benefits not only yourself but the environment. I remember in one company I was working in before, our work hours were between 7AM to 4PM. The benefit was that we got to work early and came home early because we were able to avoid rush hour traffic. You could just imagine the time savings and gasoline savings for our company shuttle bus.

Cool it down: university researchers advance hydrogen car technology

Posted on April 28, 2009, under Polttoaineet, Sekalaista, Uutiset.

Hydrogen is considered by many to be one of the cleanest types of fuels. Researchers pin their hopes on it as a replacement for dirty fossil fuels. The problem with this type of fuel as the technology currently stands is the heat generated by metal hydride storage, says Hydrogen Cars Now. “There is an excess of heat that needs to be addressed”.

The website says that researchers at Purdue University have come up with a solution to then problem: a heat exchanger for hydrogen storage. The website says the device “will help manufacturers take one step closer towards commercialization of hydrogen cars” since “Filling up a hydrogen car in 5 minutes while giving it a range of 300 miles are the goals of many manufacturers”.

The heat exchanger is made mostly of aluminum with thin fins to disperse the heat. This kind of cooling system was developed over the past 2 years and will provide other researchers worldwide a leg up on continuing research and development of metal hydride storage solutions.

It’s still early days, but Purdue University’s cooling system sounds promising. And quite cool, of course.
